review 1: Daisy Merrick is the quintiessential blooming heroine; she is buoyed through her most recent post dismissal by the fact that she has written a book and is determined to see it published. It certainly helps that her friend's husband is a publisher!Yet, when approaching Lord Marlowe about her manuscript, she is sorely disappointed by the fact that is deemed "raw". In order to have the manuscript publishing-ready, Marlowe suggests she teams up with infamous author, Sebastian Grant, so that the two could edit one another. Clinging to the offer with hope, Daisy leaves for the Earl's estate.Unfortunately for, Sebastian would rather leave well enough alone. His latest play closed in a week and his fortune is completely obliterated by former debts. Despite his lucrative career, he... more absolutely refuses to pick up a pen- not with the temptation of cocaine so closely lingering. He is just recently sober and knows that without relenting to the addiction, there's no way to write a quality word again.I like that LLG used the particular series to delve into the world of writing. Being an independent writer myself, it's fascinating to see the way particular characters respond to the terrific challenge of writing. It made Sebastian very likable, despite his dark past. And like any other romance of this nature, Sebastian wanted to be awashed by Daisy's light until it cleansed him thoroughly. Overall- a good yet shallow plot and fairly decent ending. Another LLG for the bookshelf.
review 2: I've been really enjoying the books is Ms Guhrke's "girl-bachelor" series, but this one was disappointing. The writing was as fine as ever, and the characters felt real, but it was rather slow. And the hero was just a jerk, I couldn't get past that. On the other hand, it was interesting to read about a romance between two writers. Miss Daisy Merrick, one of the boarding house regulars, aspires to be a writer someday. She lands a temp job writing a review of Sebastian Grant's new play, and it is a scathing review. He hunts her down, gives her what-for, and then (this is more than a little improbably), his publisher - who is also the man who hired her for the theater review, and is also married to one of the former girl-bachelors - hires her to be his assistant and convince him to write again. So they spend lots of time together in his country house. less
