review 1: Hmmm - I just read the other reviews, mostly 4 and 5 stars, and wonder what I missed. Detective Gabriella Versada gets called in on a bizarre. The victim (victims?) is the torso of a child fused to the hind quarters of a deer. While she's out trying to find the killer, her daughter Layla and her friend, Cas, are baiting pedophiles using social media. Sounds interesting, and it is, until it takes a turn into the paranormal fused with a rant against social media. I would read another book starring Detective Versada and her daughter since I find those to be well drawn characters, but the paranormal preaching would need to be left out of it.

... mores Detroit. I found myself drawn into each of the stories wanting to know how they would eventually overlap as it went on. With a twinge of the gruesome, and a hint of the weird as it moved along, I was not at all ready for the final act. When the story started getting intense, it was like somebody flipped a switch and immediately I found myself sliding downhill into a world of nightmares. The strange thing is...as a person who is not a huge fan of psychological horror pieces...I sort of loved it. less
