review 1: An example of traditional literature, this story was published in 2012. It is the story of a girl who is a 'blender,' (someone who blends in and doesn't stick out to a crowd) and her family, all of whom enjoy attention. The book is silly but younger students would probably enjoy it, and older students would benefit from reading it because of the progressively more difficult vocabulary. The book ends with the family getting a tiger... which will be to Maude's advantage on the last page.
review 2: Maude: The Not-So-Noticeable Shrimpton by Lauren Child is tale about Maude and her wildly eccentric family. Every single Shrimpton, but Maude, loves getting noticed. From dad Shrimpton with his lovely mustache to the youngest Shrimpton and her magical, musical abilit
... moreies, every moment must be filled with attention. Poor Maude, even if she wanted to get noticed is incapable of fitting in with her family. She is naturally a "blender" and pitied for her lack of noticeability. But one fateful day being the least noticeable Shrimpton will save her life. Child tells a fantastic story about this eccentric family not only with engagingly descriptive words but her fun use of font designs. Words that are important will be bolded, in different fonts, or different sizes. The sentence about dad Shrimpton's mustache is shaped like a mustache, this is a great example of the word artistry that Child employs to tell her tale. Trisha Krauss' artistic and sophisticated illustrations add to this highly detailed storyline in a way that makes every person, place or thing a necessary part of the story. Her blending techniques for Maude Shrimpton are amusing and beautifully done, with unique details for the least noticeable Shrimpton that make her the most fun of the bunch. less

This is a tale about the power of being yourself, and knowing that sometimes blending is fine.
