review 1: I read this book due to my best friend and I struggling both with what is/was called "ednos." I have heard very different things from people about Wintergirls. I've heard it was unrealistic and childishly written along with it being amazing and eye-opening. I finally got to read it after trying to find it for awhile. I read it in the entirety of two days. For me, it was partly relateable. Though I haven't ever gotten that bad, I relate to Lia feeling how she does and as though her and Cassie's weight loss was a competition. The moment where Elijah tells Lia about the message Cassie had left for her, (tell Lia she won. I lost, and she won.) was when I felt the real parts of it. I also felt pretty shocked at that moment for some reason; I should not have. Wintergirls felt en... moretirely too real for me at some parts; I could feel as though I was Lia. This being said, being able to immerse myself into the book set me into the pages and explored the plot as though it was my own story written in words.
review 2: I read this book a long time ago and wanted to try it again to see how it compared to some of the awesome YA stuff that has come out recently. It is still a very hard book to read because of the subject matter (anorexia) and as I read it being a little older it affected me in a different way. The way the author writes, in her unapologetic description of a girl slowly killing herself, is incredibly sad and honest. I think more teens should read this as the narrator's simple dialect is haunting, real, truthful and scary. less
