review 1: I really liked this book! I'd not read anything by Laurie Kellogg before but when it came up as a free download on Amazon I felt I had nothing to lose by getting it and the title intrigued me.The storyline is a bit convoluted at times with a lot of secondary characters trying to take over (a bit like a bad soap opera!) but I felt the central characters were strong enough that this didn't matter too much to me.So the story. Well let's see.Hunky, possessive, Latino male who knows what to do with what nature gave him in the bedroom (and from the sound of it he got more than his share in the "manhood" department!)who ended up married to his brother's girlfriend after getting her pregnant and giving up his dream of being a rock star.Said woman who is now his Ex-wife, but who h... moree refuses to view as his Ex, who probably would have stayed married to him if he had let her have another baby and who still loves him as much as he still loves her. Whilst working as a pre-school assistant she has also come up with an idea for a special toy that will help sick children when they are in hospital to cope with their feelings.Their 14yr old daughter who is in remission from leukaemia and, via the powers of the internet, realises that she may not make it to adulthood. With that in mind she is pushing all of her boundaries in an effort to live life to the full and experience everything now in case she doesn't live long enough to do them later. So Dad is called in to help Mom cope with daughter and ..... well yes it's a bit predictable I guess but they get their second chance of a happy ever after, eventually.I found this book extremely funny in places, had some steamy sex scenes and was generally, from my point of view, a good read.
review 2: This book is a view into the lives of another family in Redemption, Pennsylvania. Samantha is a divorced preschool aid with a teenaged daughter, Dani, who is in remission for leukemia. Nick is her ex who currently lives in California but moves back to Redemption when Sam tells him he needs to be closer to his daughter so he can help Sam take care of and watch over her.Sam and Nick have been divorced for a short time. Sam doesn’t realize it yet but she’s still in love with her ex and she wishes he loved her as much. Nick has loved Sam from the moment they slept together 15 years ago and hopes he can convince Sam to take him back.Comedy ensues as well as some drama when Nick moves back to Redemption (into the house with Sam and Dani). These two characters will frustrate you with their banter back and forth and then you’ll turn the page and be laughing. There are some really serious moments when it seems like Sam and Nick are thisclose to admitting to each other they’re still in love with one another. Then Nick does something Sam considers stupendously stupid to make her angry with him. This really was an enjoyable book. You’re pulling for Sam to keep her independence and yet you hope Nick finds a way to convince Sam they belong together. less
