review 1: This book fell so flat, I abandoned it within the first few chapters. I was quite surprised, given the rave reviews and length of this series. An editor character in one of my favorite books (The Siren by Tiffany Reisz) advises his author to "show, don't tell". This book is a perfect example of telling way too much. The plot and thoughts of the characters are so clearly spelled out, they leave nothing to the imagination - and there is no room for them to grow. Everything, from the characters to each scene's setting, is so overly-stereotyped, I started to wonder if Lexi Blake was the pen name of a male author. (Surely a woman would know what real women think, right?) However, the men in this novel proved just as flat as the female lead.Could I have my $.99 back, pl... moreease?
review 2: I believe I've stumbled upon an awesome new series to read. And the really good part is that there are already 7 books and a couple of novellas out, so I get to read several all at once. This book was a great combination of suspense and romance. I loved the foundation that Lexi Blake has built in this 1st book for the series. We're introduced to a group of guys that are strong, sexy, ex military (green berets) that run a security business, and do undercover work as well. If that's not interesting enough, they just happen to be hot Doms, too. I loved the hero and heroine in this book, but the secondary characters were also well developed, and I got attached to them, as well. Overall, it was hot, suspenseful romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to get started on the second book. less
