review 1: I have a very hard time rating this series, or any of Lilith Saintcrow's recent books. On the one hand i absolutely love them to death and beyond, as I think their characters are remarkably well done. However, Saintcrow has this way of writing that is rather difficult to understand. Instead of saying/showing/explaining things straight up, she tends to insinuate things, so that you must make your own conclusions/assumptions as to some things. That being said, I will most definitely read more by Lilith Saintcrow, and I will probably reread these books soon.
review 2: Book 2 of a Victorian alternate-world urban fantasy series I read for the Endeavour Award. Really this one doesn't do anything for me. I do like some of the concepts and the ideas of the characters.
... moreBut the actual characters and the writing, not so much. And on top of that, I'm not a big fan of Victorian magic or not, steampunk or not. That said it was an okay read and I'm sure plenty of other people will happily enjoy a spreading-the-plague and/or stopping it book even with a confused and abrupt ending. less

Awesome
Not quite as good as the first book in the series, still an enjoyable read.
