review 1: It took me a while to finish this book. I was visting Amish country in Ohio and thought it would be a great read while I was there. However, the violence in this book is pretty brutal so I put it down and bought the new Beverly Lewis on my kindle. I picked the book up a week later and I liked it. It is unusual for a book involving the Amish not to be cozy. I love the main characters of Kate and Tom. Both characters are complex and damaged and the books show them clawing their ways back to life. It is more about them then the crime-for me that is ok but some might not like it. I will definately read the rest in the series.
review 2: Linda Castillo continues her impeccable, tension-filled, Kate Burkholder series, without missing a beat. The small town woman chief... more of police has yet another horrific crime on her hands in her Amish community with little to go on in solving it. There are always great characters in her books...the good guys and the bad and this one has many. A true page-turner, thriller, scary-at-times book that is even better than her first in the series, 'Sworn To Silence'...a hard act to follow. This is not for the faint of heart so reader beware...but if you want to read a book without wanting to set it down, this is one for you. I am on to book three in the series, 'Breaking Silence', and expect no less great writing and plots than in the other two. Pull your curtains and lock your doors...she makes it that believable. less
