review 1: I was pleasantly surprised in this book because it started to really focus on one of the minor main characters. But was a little disappointed at the end because ultimately even though Maldonovo was given so much page time, I didn't even learn that much about him than I could found out from a secondary point of view. We already know from other books that he's fond of clothes and women and tries to avoid direct responsibility, but is intelligent despite his foppish appearance. What did we learn more than that? Really not much. So this book did not do very much for his character development and that was a disappointment.
review 2: This was a different twist with Maldynado finding out he's not just a fop and might be worth keeping. More explosions, more of poor Ses
... morepian trying to figure out who he is, Yara finding more out about herself, Amaranthe and the atrocities she has to endure and as a result learns more about why Sicarius is what he is, and of course, my favorite Sicarius becoming even more appealing, though I'm not sure that's truly possible. less

I change my mind...this one is WAY more grisly. Lots more development on all fronts.
