Flavia Albia Mystery
review 1: No, it's not for me. I love the Falco novels and was keen to read more by the author. Thought the focus on a strong female character would be an added bonus.Actually, it's just a bit dull, the plot is thin, the context is over explained (you did your research, author, I see that. Please don't retype what you learned into the novel), the protagonist iis inconvincing and the guilty party is obvious from the first minute. Mostly, though, I wanted Falco and his Lady. I'll reread them instead.
review 2: Flavia Albia is the adoptive daughter of Marcus Didius Falco (see all the earlier books) and Helena Justina. A widow, now 28, she's an established informer (private detective) like her father, and has been hired to look into the untimely death of Salvidia, a female R
... moreoman entrepreneur. It turns out quite a few people have been dying lately, with no cause established. It may or may not be murder but, warned off by the vigiles (local police), Albia naturally investigates. Despite advice against, she also falls madly for Andronicus, a good-looking archivist to the aedile (a high-ranking official), and both he and Tiberius the runner assist in the enquiry. But neither is quite what he seems, and eventually suspicion falls. An enjoyable quick read, but sadly too predictable. 5/10 (March 2014) less

Excellent book, builds on the original Falco series but strikes a very different note.

I enjoyed this (after my initial assessment of "meh"). Entertaining.
