review 1: Not as good as the first three books.I loved the first three books in this series. Here, heroine Lauren is on the run from a drug lord who was her late stepfather's nephew. She is living under a false identity, one of many she has had. Jacko is a former Navy Seal now working for a security firm (the firm started by Midnight Man). He is so one dimensional. He speaks little and mostly thinks about how he's not good enough for artistic, classy Lauren and how he would like to have sex with her. She's mostly worries about getting killed and how she will miss everyone when she moves the next time. She decides to have sex with Jacko before moving on and once she does Jacko won't let her move away. He and his security firm take over trying to protect her.I'm sorry, the characte... morers are just not as interesting as in the first three books, the chemistry is not as good, the relationship is much more simplistic (and unbelievable), and the plot is more simplistic (and sort of dumb). Nothing to see here---move on.
review 2: Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres and the books synopsis gave away just enough intrigue to pique my interest. Having not read the previous installments in the series, I did feel a little lost sometimes when the secondary characters interacted with Jacko and Lauren. But I found myself easily drawn into their lives as well as the sexily tattooed arms of Jacko. I swooned at his instinctual drive to protect the woman he loves at all costs.I really enjoyed the characters and I thought the storyline would have been more powerful if the dialogue was character driven. There were several instances where I felt there was too much internal dialogue; especially when someone asks a question and then takes several pages to internalize about it before prompting the person to continue or respond to the question posed. It takes away from the scene and I quickly lose interest in the story. I powered through though and I’m glad I did. Overall, I thought the plot was interesting and engaging and I liked that the author laid some groundwork for the next book in the epilogue, not necessarily a cliffhanger, but a nice leeway into the next adventure.***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own*** less
