review 1: Cryer’s Cross is a small town in Montana, that holds a big mystery and a big secret. McMann does a very good job at hooking the reader from the very first sentence. It seems as if every chapter ends with a cliffhanger, and you can’t put the book down. The writing in this book is very effective in expressing the tone of the book, and emotions of the characters. I think the biggest strength of this book is the fact that it keep the reader very engaged and interested the whole time, there are not any parts that are lacking in detail. I would definitely recommend this to a classmate, because it is easy to read and follow, and the characters are teengaers as well, so they are very easy to relate to. This book is not a part of a series, but I am interested in reading more bo... moreoks by the same author, Lisa McMann, because I really enjoyed the way she wrote this book.
review 2: It is always interesting reading other reviews of a book that one has just finished. There are definitely some disappointed readers out there, but I guess most felt it was pretty good. Since I devoured it in 2 sittings, I have to agree! If you are looking for some light horror with some interesting characters, give this a try. I appreciated the interweaving of the main character's OCD condition with the plot and felt that the author represented the condition with understanding (which shouldn't be a surprise since she thanks her daughter for letting her use some of the challenges her daughter faces living with OCD.) I may just have to read another horror novel soon, since this one was so enjoyable, and will have to get some recommendations. Anyone?? less
