review 1: Ahhh...I remember when I was 9 and 10 years old (too young to even be reading The Clique series) and The Clique was always my favorite. I read the first eleven books in less than two months. Then, I took a bit of a break, and I read These Boots are Made for Stalking last year. Now that I have gone back and have read this book, I have realized that The Clique is my Twilight: the best books ever at first, but then I read other books and realized that that there were much better books out there. However, I still enjoyed this book. I still feel so many emotions towards the characters, and that is why I love them so much, The Massie-Claire conflict was fantastic and hilarious. Though it may not have not been the best from a literary standpoint, this book and this series will al... moreways have a place in my heart. I can't wait to read A Tale of Two Pretties, though I know that my heart will be broken.
review 2: Becky DundonMs. HayesEnglish Period 21/20/13 The book My Little Phony by Lisi Harrison is a book in a series called The Clique. This book takes place in Westchester, New York during Christmastime. It follows the lives of a group of friends named Massie, Alicia, Kristen, Dylan, and Claire. During the story, Massie and Claire are in a fight and do various cruel things to each other. But, throughout this book they learn the true meaning of friendship and the importance of being there when your friend needs you. My favorite character in the story is named Claire Lyons. Claire is Massie's best friend but they're in a fight in this story. During this story she did some unkind things to Massie that she later regretted. For example, she put bedbugs in Massie's bed, which brought to life Massie's biggest fear. But, she was also kind deep down and always felt guilty after doing these things. I connected to Claire because she's the most relatable to me out of all the girls. The other girls came from very wealthy families and live luxurious lifestyles. However, Claire is just a typical girl and she stays true to herself instead of trying to fit in with everyone else. Throughout the story, Claire evolved and learned to forgive Massie. Also, after Massie's family lost all their money due to the recession Claire realized she should be kind to Massie. On page 187, Claire taught Massie an important lesson, "The bright side is that you don't need money to be happy. I mean, look at me and my family. We don't have a lot of money, but we're happy. This was an extremely important lesson for Massie to learn because she's very greedy and materialistic; but, now she'll have to change her lifestyle. I do think the author intended to make Claire the relatable character because very few people that read this book are millionaires. Also, most readers probably wouldn't consider themselves to be snobby or cruel, which the other girls are. Therefore, I think Claire would be perceived as the most likable characters. Overall, I thought this book was unimpressive. I thought the author made the plot very predictable and I didn't think the book was well written. However, I enjoyed the authors' underlying themes about friendship and how money can't buy happiness. I think I would've enjoyed this book a lot more if I had read it a few years ago due to the way it was written and the characters. So, I would recommend this book to girls in grades five through seventh who like realistic fiction. I don't think very many boys would enjoy it because there's no characters they could relate to in the book. However, I think girls between ten and thirteen would be entertained by this book. In conclusion, I wish I had read My Little Phony a few years ago because I would have found it more relatable and might not have found it as predictable. less
