review 1: I don't like the Blacktop series as much as I like the McKay series. This was a decent read, but I felt the mingling of two stories in one gave short shrift to one of the couples, Abe and Janie. Janie mostly came off like a bitter angry shrew and I don't think that's what the author intended. However, I am intrigued to read Kyle and Celia's story and the rest of the supporting cast was fab.
review 2: I love this series, I was hooked from the very first book. This book really threw me for a loop. There was so much going on. It wasn't just about one couple it was about 2 Abe & Janie plus Renner & Tierney. With two stories to follow there was always something going on and I loved it. I also love how each new book is not right up against the last book, time... more actually flows and the books are set a couple of years or so apart as to months apart, which I really like because when you catch glimpses of past characters there is a significant change always for the better but it is nice. Abe was not well talked about in the first book, he wasn't bad but his situation was always brought up in the negative. Then you saw him again in the 2nd book in a much lighter light but now you see he just this big complicated sweet man. He was placed in a bad situation and he dealt how he could. You know he and Janie have a past and it is not retold but it is hashed out and brought up, as it should be and it just made the characters that much stronger. Janie was not given a fair shake the first time around & I liked how Abe's siblings kind of realize that by the time this book comes to play. It made Janie out to not be such a bad girl. I liked their story. Now Renner was mentioned in the 1st book and you saw him a little tid bit in the 2nd and he comes across as this nice guy but now that his story is here you see he is a gruff lovable man. I liked his character and he and Tierney are explosive it was great. She is this shy-firecracker that you don't see coming. I liked watching their stories come together and intertwine and how this book was just so full of something going on. I'm enjoying this series and can't wait for the rest of the books less
