review 1: This was a fun read. Marcelline is a fiery character and just what the Duke of Clevedon needed to go against. I enjoyed their exchanges, as well as how the 3 Noirot sisters worked together. I really fell for Clevedon though when he took to Lucie/Erroll. First by bringing her the doll, then by wanting to be there for her even though Marcelline pointed out how bad it would be for all of them.If there was one disappointing aspect, it was not seeing anything happen to the seamstress that stole their bait and then set fire to their shop (even if it was an accident). Mrs Downes is getting her just rewards by having her clientele turn on her but what of the seamstress?Looking forward to reading Sophy and Leonie's books next!
review 2: Brilliantly written historical fi... morection/romance! I am astounded by the amount of research the author must have put into this novel. The characters were so dynamic that they just jumped off the page and came to life. The author also stayed firmly rooted in the time period throughout the book. At no point was I jolted out of the story by a sentence or phrase that didn't quite fit the era. Mrs. Noirot is probably one of my favorite female heroines and Lucie stole my heart! Go read this book:) less
