review 1: I always find it interesting the diverse opinions of the books. This series takes the good v. evil to a stark level, alluding to biblical end of all days, while suggesting that this was all before religion and religion is irrelevant. Some of the characters are too mysterious, like Sawyer, but the story, like the ones in the night creatures series are fast paced. Things don't work out here as neatly as in the night creatures where romance is a bigger part of the story. Simply put, I like Handeland's writing. I normally don't like the "other" series by an author, be it paranormal (love Singh's angel series but not the psi-changeling or love PD James' Dagliesh but not her female detective). That's not the case, and I laughed out loud wading the Shakespeare and zombies b... moreooks.
review 2: This has the elements of a good story, and I finished it wondering what would happen in the sequel. But a quarter of the text is dedicated to the main character's sexual experience. While directly relevant to the story line, it was unnecessary and uninteresting. There's a captivating plot within, based on the the Biblical Nephilim and a variety of monster legends. The author should have developed that more and the other aspects less. less
