review 1: This was one of Handeland's more predictable books. Still it was a good read, but one that I zipped through rather quickly since I already knew the general direction it was going.I'll say right off the bat that I was a little dissapointed that there was yet another werewolf that was 'good' from the start. I like reading the monsters as monsters because it's a nice change of pace from all the other paranormal romances out there. It was even more dissapointing that there was a whole town of 'nice' werewolves.Plot wise I found this book to be not as well thought out as Handeland's others. How the lead male, Julian remained unaware of his brother's murderous lifestyle for so long made no sense to me whatsoever. I also didn't appreciate another character being introduced near t... morehe end of the book for the sole purpose of being the one to have suspicion fall on. It would have worked so much better if he'd been introduced much earlier, rather than the 'suspicious guy gone fishing'.What I did like about this book? The sex. And the dilema surrounding the two leads attraction to each other. Alex is a rogue hunter who killed Julian's wife. Julian is werewolf bent on revenge and turns Alex into a werewolf for the sole purpose of letting her know what it feels like to be one of them. It was an interesting dynamic to watch Julian fall in love with his wife's murderer.
review 2: Other than Moon Cursed (which while it is a Nightcreature book, it isn't a werewolf tale) I think this is my favorite in the Nightcreature series at least until Crave the Moon comes out (well see if this stays my fav). Spoiler alert!! Who knew there could be a whole village of werewolves who are good unlike their demon-ridden brethen that Edward is always after (other than Elise and the wolves she's cured). This tale just goes to show you that while revengence may best be served cold, watch out - it might come back and bite you in the booty. The chemistry between Julian and Alex was well written. I especially liked the blood jumping petrie dishes with mates - what a great original twist on the mythos. The getting sick when far away is a bit like Eileen Wilks' Lupi stories but Lori gave it her own twist so it is ok. I was a little disappointed in the plot twist (but that is nothing unusual because I am frequently able to guess the plots) but it does take away from the story. I wonder if future books will have Edward going after them? Hmmm, will just have to wait and see. less
