review 1: Loved the book. My Aunt turned me onto this series: I'm extremely happy that she did. This book reads like a PBS detective series. long and deep and literate. I could see Inspector Gamanche so clearly, could hear the way he spoke.... . Although I've been to Montreal before, I've never read a book set there - the atmosphere is delicious. I think I want to go back to the start of the series, Just to get in on the back-story of these people.
review 2: Well, if you look at my list of books, I already reviewed #1 and #6. Since that time I've read 2,3,4,5,7,and now 8. I've really enjoyed the characters in this series - they're very likeable and very interesting, and quite complex. I only put down three stars for this book. I believe that the reason is that I read... more too many books in this series too quickly. I was able to do that for the Doc Ford (Randy Wayne White author) series, but I probably should have put these down for a bit. I'll definitely continue reading these (Doreen has finished all that are available) but I need a couple of months break. less
