It was a good mystery. Sometimes, I would feel chills down my back. However, I find the beginning a bit slow, the gathering of clues took the 2/3 of the book, but the reason it took so long was because Olivier was lying or not telling the whole truth. I think the last chapter was very beautiful and poetic and summed up the story pretty well. It was nostalgic when the duck flew away. Despite the seriousness of the case, I still found the book humorous, especially with Rosa the duck. And... I am happy that I was on the right track about the identity of the murderer and what he did was so sly and unexpected because Olivier is described as such a gentle character. I think Louise Penny did a great job. Thumbs up!!
Bit of a disappointment, I have read all the books in the series so, still have some too read, but this is not what I was expecting. Was waiting for the finial twist which didn't occur. I kept checking I hadn't missed a page... Surely Olivier wasn't the murderer, it's seems to go against everything we have learned to expect about Three Pines. Gamache is such a great judge about people and charcters, surely he would know whether Olivier has committed the murder, instead he felt olivier should be given the benefit of the doubt and was looking elsewhere for the culprit.I must say I'm not convinced.... Especially when his partner is convinced of his innocence. Being greedy doesn't a murderer make.
Creepy and compelling. Darker, or at least seems darker, than the earlier books in series.
Wonderfully written book by Penney. Great psychological characterization.
4.5 stars. Very suspenseful, very entertaining.
