review 1: This is the first (and only) of the Inspector Gamache books I've read, and it didn't work for me. It was interminable. The story line about the Inspector's colleagues got old. After about halfway through the book I found myself skipping through the book. Although I didn't like this one, I would read another one in the series. So many people seem to like the series, I would like to give it another shot.
review 2: This was perfect. I listened to this on audiobook first ( Ralph Cosham is a wonderful reader) but will be reading it again and again. I have been wondering since The Beautiful Mystery how Penny would resolve the situation she'd written her characters into. This is better than anything I came up with; perfect, seamless, inevitable in hindsight, flowing ... morenaturally from the very first word of Still Life. less
