review 1: I picked this book up by mistake. I thought it was the novel that the film, "The Pretty One" was based on. The film is about a pair of twins, identical except for success and attitude. One twin dies and the other one, the introverted socially unexciting one, takes over the "pretty" one's life. This book ain't about that :/From what I can tell it's about a bunch of really screwed up sisters, privileged, spoiled and neurotic. I got into chapter two before I discovered it was the wrong book. I want to finish it, but I'm not sure if I will regret the brain cells that will die in the attempt. All I can say is that:1) stories like this make me glad I'm an only child2) this is why I sometimes read Young Adult books - they're more grown up...
review 2: Sisters! THREE sis
... moreters. As is usually the case, three sisters with three distinct, different personalities and views on life...Within the first 10 pages I was enthralled, amused and curious to know more about all three of them. SO much so I purchased a second copy for one of MY two sisters.By the time I got to what I am still unsure if the author intended to be the BIG REVEAL... I had not only lost all interest in the book, the whiney, childish characters and their self centered views, I realized these characters had no adult depth. What there is to know about them lay in those first few pages. All else was immature, annoying and indeed, proof that all they had were the caricatures of themselves. Caricatures most any adult would shrug off, ignore or would have long before grown up enough to lose. Not these three, they hung on like Peter Pan grasping at a wooden sword in a make believe battle for a victory. A victory of nothing.I finished only to be able to fully apologize to my sister for sending her a copy, though she likely may NOT finish the book out of boredom and annoyance. The bigoted, narrow-minded attitudes of the author are the moldy topping on this flat sour cake. less
