review 1: This was a sexy little read about two men from very different up-bringings falling love. Dallin was kicked out of his Mormon parent’s home as a teenager. He turned to prostitution and vowed to never be dependent on anyone again. Clay had a very wealthy upbringing and a family who finds his personal quirks more difficult to deal with than the fact he’s gay.Dallin had given up hooking in hopes of supporting himself through his own business. It just isn’t working out and he can’t lose his office space or he has nowhere to go. Except back to hooking. So he reaches out to his old pimp, who happens to be a lawyer and a pretty nice guy as far pimps go, for help. His pimp finds him is a rich older man looking for a full time submissive lover. He wants Dallin at his home na... moreked every night when he gets home and to leave after Clay goes to work. To be his for the night in whatever way it pleases him. Once they meet and size each other up, they draw up a contract and agree on the terms.Dallin enjoys the kink and the sex. He finds being bossed around by Clay surprisingly sexy and comforting. Dallin has done this type of thing before. The pay is amazing and it’s guaranteed for a year if he just keeps his status as Clay’s lover a secret. Clay has been burned by a lover in the past and this arrangement seems best. Problem is he starts to develop an emotional attachment to Dallin. Clay has a strong need to control and take charge of situations. Dallin has a natural rejection to being taken care of in his real life. Their failures to take the others urges into consideration causes problems. Making their new arrangement tougher than it should be considering how much they both enjoy it.Dallin is angry and stubborn but not bad considering what he’s been through in his years as a rent boy. He’s mostly accepting of being a prostitute. He’s good at it. He just doesn’t want to need to do that anymore. Dallin wants to use his other talents to make money. Clay is one of those slightly frustrating and odd characters who just happens to love to dominate a man. Clay’s clumsy attempts at considering Dallin’s refusal to be dependent on him outside their home is charming. He just doesn’t understand why Dallin won’t use his wealth and power to solve his problems since he’s offering. Seems the most efficient way.I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of D/s relationships but this one was pretty hot. I think those who enjoy it will love this one. AND those who can take it or leave it (like me) will probably really like this story. It’s thorough in setting up the scene in a totally tantalizing way. Maybe it’s so sexy because Dallin and Clay enjoy it and each other so much. Both men have a somewhat cynical view at love and relationships but sex is fun. Yet both quickly become attached. Clay finds it hard to trust after his last failed relationship. Dallin has never had one and never really planned to at this point in his life. Love and affection just kind of happen. This is my first book by this author and it certainly won’t be the last. I really liked the flawed and complex characters. They were likable but frustrating because they’re both stubborn. The sex was intense and pushed me a little further than I’d say I’m comfortable with but the author soothed me through it with the pleasure the guys found. The story kept me engaged the entire time. Very good read!
review 2: I really liked and connected with these guys and I'm a sucker for the "Pretty Woman" trope when it's done well. William is a socially inept older dom who has failed at relationships. Dallin has had a hard life, he's self reliant and plucky; he managed to start his own business and leave prostitution behind until circumstances push him back into it. When William hires Dallin, boundaries between love and business quickly blur. There's lots of angst, conflict, and hot kinky sex as these guys muddle through. Ben the pimp/lawyer with a heart of gold was also a wonderful addition. less
