review 1: Interesting story and premise with characters well laid out but some glaring writing mistakes that jarred a bit for me. Multiple references to the present day and 2013 and current mental health terminology etc etc acted only to pull the reader out of the era the book is set in ruining a well set up atmosphere.These reference could have been kept as foot notes and been interesting rather than a negative. A shame as it really is a good story , well researched and nicely written in general.
review 2: I enjoyed this novel. There were some interesting twists in the story. I picked this up just on a quick browse through the library display tables, but I'm glad I did. It is more adult than some of the kids books I have been reading, so it has more depth. It is als... moreo a bit darker and disturbing at times. I think I would like to read the other Charles Maddox mysteries. I am curious to see the development of of this detective's imperfect character (which I missed, having started with the third book in the series). less
