The Missing
review 1: I think it's awesome how Margaret Peterson Haddix chose to include Anastasia Romanov, one of the most famous missing kids in history, in her series (even though there is scientific evidence which proves that Anastasi aand her brother Alexeiwere both killed along with the rest of their family). This bokk seemed to have more action and other aspects that I din't see much of in the other books (I'm not gonna say what. I don't like spoilers as much as the next person). The story also makes Jonah's past identity a more important factor, and it gets me excited to think about when Jonah will find out who he is. But overall, I have to say that I really did enjoy this book.
review 2: Margaret Peterson Haddix has to be one of my all time favorite authors. I really enjo
... morey The Missing series in particular because it combines two of my favorite genres - historical fiction & science-fiction. In this book, Jonah, Katherine, Chip, Gavin, & Danielle travel back to 1918 Russia (Danielle & Gavin are Anastasia & Alexei Romanov), and as per Haddix's usual, chaos ensues. What I liked best about this book, is that I had enough background knowledge about the time period I THOUGHT I knew what was going on, but to my delight (and shock) Haddix also taught me many things about what scientists have only recently discovered about this event. It made me want to stop reading at several key moments of the book and pick up my laptop to Google and double check facts. Another thing that Haddix does really well is combine the macabre with the feel-goodness that readers really desire at the end of a story. There is something intriguing about knowing that the diamonds the Romanov girls sewed into their clothes acted so well as a bullet-proof vest (though that was not their intention) that the Russian soldiers were forced to kill them up close via a gunshot to the head or stab them to death with a bayonet. While this is truly horrific (the kind of horrific you want to turn your head away from but can't possibly stop reading) you also learn that many of the soldiers needed to drink before they killed the Romanovs, leading one to not give up entirely on the humanity of people. So all in all, I really enjoyed this book. If you are interested in history, fantasy, and what-ifs - please give this book a try. less
