review 1: I really enjoyed the adventure this book took me through. It was emotionally challenging, twisted and dark, and the character development was beautifully done! I know people are concerned with how it was categorized as YA, but I read this when I was 17. I would be wary of the sexual content and certainly it isn't for the faint hearted but it's an excellent read. I, personally would not recommended this book to anyone unless I knew they could handle reading in detail about obscene things. However, anyone looking for something interesting, fresh, and altogether an intriguing read, THIS is it!

... morentext. As a practising witch, I love this book because it is absolutely realistic about magic. The truth of magic is that is born from great terror and darkness, as much as from love, glamour, glory and beauty. I fell into this story and dwelt in its layered worlds with great delight. It was shelved as adult fiction in my library, and I had no idea that anyone would consider this book to be 'youth fiction' until I read the reviews here on Goodreads. Now I've always considered myself pretty liberal when it comes to letting young people read mature literature if they feel ready for it - but I'm really shocked at this one. There is no way I would recommend this book to a young person, or even to an immature adult. This book needs to come with a trigger warning for survivors of sexual abuse - but I think it's worth getting through the discomfort at the beginning of the book to get to the absolutely stunning resolution of this issue toward the end. less

This book was beautiful & heartbreaking. The language in it was fantastic.

Would've been five stars but for that needlessly cruel ending.
