review 1: I've enjoyed Hendrix's style of historical figures in other books, and was not disappointed here. I was a bit disappointed in the overall negative portrayal of many presidents. I found the coverage to be a bit unbalanced. My liberal friends would love some of these, especially the recent presidents. Not that I deny these things happened, but if the intended audience is children, I find few poems I want to share with even my fifth graders. It will take hours of explanation or for them to research and understand the many issues that each president faced.
review 2: The illustrations really brought this to life! I feel like there were some poems that didn't very clearly inform the readers about the presidents contribution. I suppose, though, that some presidents di... moredn't have as much to contribute! They did give a feeling of intimacy and I like that Singer generally addressed a key portion of the presidency, rather than trying to encompass their entire terms accomplishments. The quotes by the presidents are also a nice touch, giving the feeling that they are speaking for themselves as well as being represented in the poetry. less
