review 1: I've enjoyed Hendrix's style of historical figures in other books, and was not disappointed here. I was a bit disappointed in the overall negative portrayal of many presidents. I found the coverage to be a bit unbalanced. My liberal friends would love some of these, especially the recent presidents. Not that I deny these things happened, but if the intended audience is children, I find few poems I want to share with even my fifth graders. It will take hours of explanation or for them to research and understand the many issues that each president faced.

They did give a feeling of intimacy and I like that Singer generally addressed a key portion of the presidency, rather than trying to encompass their entire terms accomplishments. The quotes by the presidents are also a nice touch, giving the feeling that they are speaking for themselves as well as being represented in the poetry. less

Solid poetry entry to introduce our presidents and spark mini-research into their presidency.

Good information, but the poetry is often awkward. I loved the illustrations.
