review 1: While each book can be read as a stand alone, they are each connected. It would be best to read the series in order to get the most from each book.Jaren has just been spectacularly dumped by her boyfriend. She is stranded in Juneau without money, a passport or credit cards. Kajakti has decided he is tired of being lonely so he goes out to find a woman to keep him company for the night. When he sees Jaren on the sidewalk he thinks she will do nicely. As he gets closer he realizes she’s his mate. He quickly approaches her and soon they are spending the evening together, talking and getting to know one another. Jaren also gets drunk and Kajakti takes her to his house where she sleeps with him while he’s asleep, binding them together as mates. After each book I wonder... more how Chenery will keep the story line interesting since all the characters want pretty much the same thing. To find their mates and defeat the dark wolves. With each book I am pleasantly surprised at how she is able to make each story interesting and unique. In this story we get Jaren making the moves on Kajakti and setting events in motion that cause them to be bound as mates before she even knows anything about werewolves or that fact that he’s from the ice age. When Jaren discovers what Kajakti is she is, understandably, freaked out but she is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. This is the shortest so far of the novellas but we still get to learn about Jaren and get more information on some of the other wolf brothers. I would have liked to learn more about Kajakti besides he wanted to find his mate. While some of the wolf brothers have distinguishing factors to their characters, Kajakti still remains a bit of a mystery. I would have liked a little more character development with him. That said I did enjoy the scenes between him and Jaren. He is very tender and sweet to her but he does break bad on the dark wolves when they meet.I liked the twist we get here with the dark wolves. There is also a new character added to the series and I think it will be very exciting to see where the story goes from here.
review 2: Kajakti has watched as three of his wolf brothers found their mates. While he is happy for his brothers, he's feeling a little envious of them too. Deciding that it's past time he got laid, he heads to town in search of a willing woman. Might not be Mrs. Right...but maybe she can be Miss Right Now. Turns out it's Kajakti's lucky day to meet the right one... his one true mate. Betcha didn't see that one coming. Jaren just got dumped by her bully boyfriend, who ran off with her money, credit cards and her passport. She's in between a rock and a hard place when a good looking stud offers to help. She doesn't know it ( he most certainly does) but Kajakti is her mate. They are destined to be together, and the chemistry is too hard to resist. She takes the guy up on his offer and goes back to his place (den) where she meets his family. They hit it off, and Jaren is seriously considering taking Kajakti up on his offer to stick around for a while. Kajakti neglects to tell her that it's already impossible for her to leave him. I won't say why, but readers can pretty much guess. Then things get interesting, as the Dark Wolves up their game and suddenly all the Sentinels are in danger from within.Sadly, there are only two more Wolf brothers left to find their long awaited mates. Yet, I have hope that Marisa will give Carson a story and a mate. Then there is another new character that we meet at the end of this story. I feel that Ryder could possibly be the most intriguing character, and would love to read his story. As with all Marisa's books, the characters here are strong and engaging. I liked that she went in a new direction with this story. It was quite a bit darker than the rest of the series, and I enjoyed the change. More time has passed since the guy Cassidy discovered the Wolf brothers and they have become more acclimated to the modern world. Gone are the charming misunderstandings of todays modern language. I kind of missed the humor of them, but at least the writer doesn't beat a horse to death. She keeps changing her story, and I'm glad for it. Nothing worse than a story that keeps repeating over and over, and that will turn me off from a writer faster than anything. Another thing I enjoy about Marisa's work. Each book is different and special in its own way. I would have enjoyed the story more if Jaren had wavered a tiny bit on accepting Kajakti though. More angst is what I was looking for. She accepted him way too fast. She forgave him even faster, and I found that lessened the stories credibility. Same goes with how quickly the problem with the Dark Wolves was resolved. Without giving away the plot, I felt that would have been better if the writer had explored that, and drawn it out more. Just saying, it would have made the story better for me, but I still enjoyed it more than any of the other books. I love all of Marisa Chenery's books, and felt that this one was one of the best. It explored the truth that we all have a dark side. It took a series that I've loved from the start, and made it better by going in a new direction. I enjoyed seeing one of the Sentinels dark side come out. The writer played on his resentment and fear that his mate might not accept him. Now, I know that the whole thing was triggered, but there had to be something hidden in his sub-conscience to begin with. Not sure where Marisa's mind was on that, or if that was my interpretation only. Whatever it was, it worked for me, and I'm hoping she will continue to shake things up with the series. No doubt about it, Ice Age Lover is some of Marisa Chenery's best work. It's exciting and entertaining. It's passionate and fun. And obviously, I loved it. I'd recommend it to paranormal fans who like a good shifter story they can really sink their teeth into. A complimentary copy provided in return for my honest opinion. less

Not bad for 67 pages. I'd read others of the series.
