review 1: Compelling story with realistic historical perspective on the evils on the corporation that owns everything and what happens to those who sell their souls to the company store or chose to fight that evil, both with present day fracking and coal in 1938. However, the subject of a young girl's father being sentence to death, corporate greed, etc. seems a little dark and intense for the young audience that this book was written for. Maybe better for young adults, but the characters are probably too young for their interest. So a really interesting book that struggles to find its audience.
