review 1: The sister Peter Parker never knew he had drags him into an international espionage caper tied to the Parker parents' role as ace CIA agents. Also, giant Nazi robot. Notice how none of this has any connection to the things people like about Spidey? It's also set at a point in his timeline so vague as to be ridiculous. Yes, the art's pretty, but as the third entry in a line of original graphic novels, this inessential oddity fails to make much of a case for the range.
review 2: Dell'Otto's art is gorgeous, that's all I have to say on the matter, and I wouldn't blame anyone if that was the only reason they picked up this book.As for the story, it is a pleasantly old school feeling Spider-tale. Waid certainly knows the characters, as he's amply demonstrated in th
... moree past. The dialogue works. However, I must admit to not digging international espionage in my Spider-Man stories. I never liked Richard and Mary Parker being CIA agents, and have always felt it was a poorly thought out device for dragging Peter into these sort of situations. After a brief prologue, the story kicks off with an attempt to kidnap Peter (not Spidey). This is foiled with the assistance of a woman who claims to be Peter's long lost sister. It seems that she, like their parents, is also a CIA agent, and she is hot on the trail of some hidden Nazi gold. Adventure ensues. The plot progresses exactly as one might expect, and if you couldn't figure out where the sister storyline is going I'm going to have to assume that your copy is missing a couple of those prologue pages. What joy there is to be had here comes in the form of the art and the yo-ho-ho atmosphere of adventure, the actual story is largely irrelevant. less

While not quite a classic, it was a very interesting story. The art was very well done.

A solid four. Good art, good plot, okay I saw the twist coming but no worries.

Predictable and almost dull, but still kind of okay.

Nice, fast paced, self-contained tale.
