Bruno, Chief of Police
review 1: Well written in a clear and simple style. Based on the first chapter, I expected more stylized prose, but it turned out to be quite minimalist. Bruno is a wonderful character and the author does a good job of painting a rough sketch of the community and people in it. He then leaves it up to the reader to fill in the blanks. The plot is compelling without being over complicated, the mystery solved through an understanding of people and history rather than science or procedure. I recommend this and will definitely continue with the series.
review 2: First in the series, the second of the Bruno, Chief of Police books I've read. I actually would give it a 3.5. I enjoyed the introduction to this southwestern corner of France; the author captures the pace of life a
... morend (almost stereotypical)personalities of small town France. As Benoît Courrèges, aka Bruno, investigates the murder of an elderly African, the reader is drawn into some (to me) little-known atrocities of WWII. A bit of an eye-opener, handled well in the outcome. less

Most notable for its atmospheric introduction to rural France. Enjoyable without being dazzling.
