review 1: The reason for required attendance at the rodeo does not any sense and Rand not remembering this important thing did not make any sense. Figuring out who is related to who by eye color did not make any sense. These people were already related as “cousins” and could easily have the same eye color. The reason for Rand being gone did not make any sense. Without any warning he leaves the ranch for six days to help someone who dislikes him and is disrespectful of his partner. Lastly, Rand and Charlotte planning children without letting Stef in on the plans did not make any sense. With all those things going on I still really liked this book and I really enjoyed getting to follow up with Rand and Stef. Rand is still all alpha and overprotective of Stef and Stef ha... mores finally decided that he really wants Rand even if it means giving up his life in the city. They spent too much of the book apart, but when they are together they are so good!
review 2: synopsis: it's two years after stef and rand got together, and there has been some fallout from them being together. the county that rand grew up in decided to re-zone so that the ranch was no longer in that county. the other boardering county was there with an offer the next day, and rand has made improvements there, rather than his old one. rand has agreed to help one of his cousins with a weekend dude ranch thing, and will be setting off the next morning. stef gets a phone call about a ranch rodeo that their ranch needs to attend in order to maintain ownership in a grazing lease. stef knows that rand will keep his word to his cousin, so he and some of the hands head off the the rodeo. stef meets several people who have known rand for a long time, but don't know that rand is "shacked up" with a guy. he gets punched, he hosts a bachelor auction, and when he finds out that if the owner doesn't actually participate in the rodeo, they're disqualified, he rides saddle bronc. he gets bucked off, of course, and hurt. rand doesn't know, but someone sent him the link to the rodeo webpage and he finds out. during this time, stef also finds out that rand's father is not his biological father; his uncle is, and said uncle is behind the major push to get rand's name off the shared grazing lease.what i liked: seeing rand and stef again. it was more about stef finding his place among the ranch hands and the people that rand used to deal with, and realizing that he actually did belong on the ranch, not just with rand. i liked that, for the most part, people accepted him. i also liked that stef was putting down roots. when stef got hurt, and even before, i liked that you could see that he was rand's everything, not just a passing fancy; that without stef, rand didn't function. what i didn't like: seriously? why did the uncle have to be the biological father? what was the point of that? wasn't it poignant enough that an uncle didn't accept that his nephew was gay, rather than a father who wanted to claim his son didn't like the fact that he was gay? less
