review 1: I always enjoy the Alpine books, but I do have trouble keeping the cast of characters straight. Who was or is married to whom and trying to remember how they are all related to Vida Runkel! Emma and Milo finally tie the knot, which creates a different set of complications. Of course there is a murder, small towns can be more dangerous than big cities! The deceased was not a nice guy so you wonder how he stayed alive as long as he did! Alpine was a real town until 1929, interestingly enough. She is very accurate about all the Scandinavians in the Pacific Northwest, too. It seems that all the residents of Alpine ARE genuine characters!!
review 2: I think I got that Milo and Emma were engaged and silly blind fools about their love within the first couple chapt
... moreers, so by the end of the book I was a little ready to puke at how Daheim had kept repeating it. Same for the small town gossip and everything else that was on repeat. I think there was a death and a mystery in there, along with a side plot about Blackwell having attempts on his life and history on small town politics. Yes, amateur sleuth characters need time to percolate on how to solve it, but it could have been trimmed a little, with a little more on the main murder and been a good story. less

ok, but a bit slower on the read than the others. I think she is tired of this series and it shows.

I really enjoy the Alpine series. The characters have certainly developed over the years.
