review 1: Had never engaged her before, saw her name over and over, praised and admired, and pointed to as an inspiration. Further commentary seems trite and useless, here are some glimpses, some snippets of her loving vision:… I have become the child of the clouds, and of hope.I have become the friend of the enemy, whoever that is. I have become older and, cherishing what I have learned,I have become younger. And what do I risk to tell you this, which is all I know? Love yourself. Then forget it. Then, love the world.~~~I believe in kindness. Also in mischief. Also insinging, especially when singing is not necessarilyprescribed….Keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable. ~~~When I was young and poor, when little was much, when I was nimble and never tired, and the hours of ... morethe day were deep and long, where was the end that was already committed?Where was the flesh that thinned and stiffened?Nowhere, nowhere!Just the gift of forgetfulness gracious and kindwhile I ran up hills and drank the wind--time out of mind. ~~~Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelousto be understood.Let me keep my distance, always, from thosewho think they have the answers.Let me keep company always with those who say"Look!" and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads.~~~… to the holiest of laws:be aliveuntil you are not.~~~What in the world,is there not to be amazed byand to be steadied byand to cherish?Oh, my dear heart,my own dear heart, full of hesitations, questions, choice of directions,...~~~How did it come to bethat I am no longer youngand the worldthat keeps timein its own wayhas just been born?I don't have the answersand anyway I have become suspiciousof such questions, and as for hope, that tender advisement, even thatI'm going to leave behind.♥
review 2: Mysteries, YesTruly, we live with mysteries too marvelousto be understood. How grass can be nourishing in themouths of the lambs. How rivers and stones are foreverin allegiance with gravitywhile we ourselves dream of rising. How two hands touch and the bondswill never be broken. How people come, from delight or thescars of damage,to the comfort of a poem.Let me keep my distance, always, from thosewho think they have the answers.Let me keep company always with those who say"Look!" and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads.~ from the bookLi Po and the MoonThere is the story of the old Chinese poet:At night in his boat he went drinking and dreamingAnd singingThen drowned as he reached for the moon’s reflection.Well, probably each of us, at some time, has beenAs desperate. Not the moon, though.~ from the book less
