review 1: Super Genius plans the Great Escape from DARPA. That's the book in brief. But it's the details that are fascinating - using near-future or current technologies (for the most part), Dr. David Loren, a late 20's Super Genius, wants out of the military industrial complex. So he gets out. The story is interesting, Loren is a fun character, as are several of those around him, and the bonus articles are filled with links to examples of how everything is drawn from real world tech. This is in many ways the antithesis of The Manhattan Projects - here the science is real world, and all too believable. It's not bad, but it can be used that way. And the moral grey area is the central conflict. Very dense reading for a graphic novel, but very enjoyable.
review 2: Fu... moren read. Dr. David Loren is a Modernized McGyver Jr. I bought this randomly from a suggestion on another purchase. I'm really glad I chanced it. Surprisingly intelligent and based in a near reality of scientific progress. My favorite aspect of the novel is the author, Matt Hawkins' writing, almost a Renaissance view of the world, he brings in multiple issues and merges them into a multi-faceted adventure. "Spoiler-ish" My only issue is that I wanted something in the Godfather plan to go wrong. I didn't want him to fail, but a last minute work around would have been great, to show that he isn't quite perfect.
