review 1: If YOU invent the character YOU should be able to keep track of the details of his life. I hate inconsistencies! In this book, we first meet the character of Simon Black WHOSE PARENTS ARE DEAD! In other, later books, they are very much alive. Now they may be alive in an early work and die at some time, but HOW if they are dead in the first book with Simon do they suddenly come back from the dead YEARS LATER?
review 2: I was going to give this two stars but then thought that a bit mean. This is the 21st Agatha Raisin book apparently but the first I've read. We are definitely in Midsomer country here with murder and mayhem in bucolic communities. I liked the idea of the officious Health and Safety officer. ... morethere were difficulties raised about Christmas decorations on lampposts as happens here. I liked Agatha Raisin's character. Many of the other characters are stock from the genre - the country vicar for example - but with a slight twist. Said vicars are neither bumbling nor benign. I shan't rush to read any more but if they cross my path I won't ignore them. less
