review 1: Lark returns to the city but things are drastically different. The Renewable who helped Lark escape in the first book is present but chillingly different. what are her real plans? This is a solid wrap up to the series but the ending seemed a bit. ..compact. Could have been a little more fleshed out? The epilogue could also have been a teaser for a spin-off. I don't think it really is but wishful thinking.
review 2: This is the third installment in the Skylark series. Lark is heading home to try to fix the problem created by the Institute. It was the Institute’s architects who almost killed her earlier but she now knows she may be the only one with the power needed to put a stop to them. Oren, the partial Shadow boy she loves, accompanies her. They want to h
... moreelp the Rebellion but what they find is that Eve, the powerful Renewable from book one, is now in hiding with the rebels. These rebels are lead by one of Lark’s brothers and she’s not happy because he was a traitor to her. Eve and Lark share a powerful magic and Lark has many questions about how the girl escaped the Architects and what she plans to do now. Can Lark trust this girl who has been tortured and abused for so long? Spooner finishes the trilogy with a bang. She brings the story full-circle and Lark must make decisions that will either ruin everything or save the rebellion. She is a strong female character who is selfless and courageous. Oren is there to assist her but his role is merely supporting and he does not drive the action. Yet Lark counts on him to bolster her in dangerous situations. Oren is likeable, sad and loyal. Readers will root for the couple but perhaps it’s not meant to be. Spooner adds sufficient conflict to their romance to spur the story to its climax. The return to the beginning is a nice finish and revisiting characters from previous installments makes the story complete. less
