review 1: I tend to like mythical fiction, interesting takes on religion, and fun YA stuff, but despite checking all those boxes, There is No Dog simply didn't do it for me. The plot felt scattered and the characters were underdeveloped and unsympathetic. The only thing that kept me reading was curiosity about how Rosoff would wrap up this mess. Thankfully, Rosoff is a good writer and There is No Dog is pretty short, so it wasn't challenging to finish - but it also wasn't worth getting to the end. I loved Rosoff's first novel (How I Live Now) and had high hopes for her other books. There is No Dog dashed those hopes and I won't seek out another of Rosoff's books in the future.
review 2: Ugh, hate when this happens. This just didn't cut it for me.I found it to be a poor at
... moretempt at comedic blasphemy without any underlying statement, without having some sort of message that had be deduced and inferred. It was a surface-story with nothing more to it....At least that's how I felt for however many pages I read. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I've seen plenty of people who consider this to be Rosoff's genius. But it just wasn't for me. less
