review 1: I didn't like this book as much as Saving Francesca. To tell you the truth, I was set out to hating it after the few chapters. But after a awhile I fell in love with the book and all the characters (even though I still was confused by who was who). That's the thing about Marchetta. She makes her characters grow on you slowly, and you're in love with them before you realize; sometimes I feel as though her characters are actually living somewhere in Australia. One of the things I felt missing from this book was this sort of lightness that Saving Francesca had. All in all, I really did enjoy this book, and I recommend it if you enjoyed Saving Francesca.
review 2: One of the best contemporary books that I've read so far. The Piper's Son is about a boy named Tom
... morewho lived with his aunt when his family broke apart after the death of his uncle in a subway bombing. And there are many things that I like about this book. One of them is the characters, especially the main character Tom. Melina has done a great job in creating his character that he feels like a real person with real pain and you can't help but to feel sympathetic to him. Apart from that, I also praise how she can convey emotions expertly. She can pull your heartstrings even with simple sentences, and I can't count how many times I almost I cried when reading this book. I definitely like this more than Saving Francesca, and I'm intrigued to read more of her books in the future. less

I ended up enjoying this quite a lot. I wasn't sure about it as I read, but I'm happy how it ended.

Sort of surprised about how "meh" I feel after this one. Alas.
