review 1: Another smart and engaging charmer from Michael Gruber. I don't know anyone else who can craft a page turner from a narrative where not very much happens . . . and yet life as we know it seems to hang in the balance. I notice that a fair number of readers just don't get Gruber. If you've stunted your intellectual growth reading urban fantasy and what passes for romance these days, you're probably not going to appreciate the effort Gruber requires. If on the other hand you still have enough functioning synapses to create a spark when you rub them together, you will find reading Gruber a rewarding exercise.
review 2: one of the best novels i have ever read. great pace, excellent realism of place and character. a thriller in the best sense, with lots of history ... more(esp of art theft in WWII) without that bogging down the story in any way. i felt after reading this that its author is verging on genius, and i don't toss that word around carelessly. i listened to the audiobook (more than once,) which was performed very well. looking forward to reading other books by Gruber. i bought Tropic of Night... less
