Baker Street Letters
review 1: I picked this up on sale because of the Sherlock Holmes connection. Basically, two lawyer brothers have leased 200 Baker Street. Part of that lease involves receiving letters from people to Sherlock Holmes and answering them with a standard form letter. Reggie goes in one day to discover is brother, Nigel, has gotten upset about certain ones. He then goes in the next day and discovers that one of their workers has been murdered and Nigel is gone. Reggie follows the letters to Los Angeles where he tracks down his brother who ends up accused of a murder he didn't commit. The story involves unravelling a 20 year old mystery and discovering some old secrets. Okay book, but got rather frustrated at how long it took Reggie to accept and go along with SH letters and all his frust... moreration with his brother. I thought the writing could have been tighter and less rambling.
review 2: This was not a true Holmes pastiche, but a mystery with an intriguing Sherlockian premise. Reggie Heath, London solicitor, rents office space at 221 Baker Street - and a caveat of his lease is that he must answer all letters sent to his office that are addressed to Sherlock Holmes. Nigel, Reggie's ineffectual and flighty younger brother, takes on this responsibility, a bit too seriously. The plot was quick paced, but characterizations tended to be stereotypes. I felt the author was quite uncomfortable with his London setting - I noticed a few malapropisms, including a mention of a Blackwell tart. (Huh??? that wouldn't be my favorite British supermarket treat, Bakewell tart, would it??) Once the characters flew off to Los Angeles, the book found its feet and jogged along quickly. I enjoyed the premise and will probably try the next book in the series. If the stereotypical characterizations continue, book number 2 will be my last. less

It was OK - just OK. I had hoped for more Sherlock. The plot was messy with clunky transitions.

Not as good or quick paced as the second of this series but a good read nonetheless

Cute, not bad for a practically free book.
