review 1: I remember reading this story in the single issues and having a hell of a time keeping track of what was going on from issue to issue. Reading this all as one volume has given me a new respect for the story. This is kind-of the last volume of Hellboy in a lot of senses, no matter where the story goes from here. This is the epic tale that isn't just Ragna Rok for the setting, but also for Hellboy himself. He makes hard decisions that are also death to the old Hellboy and arrival of a new character. When the dust settles on this chapter, everything is new and the course of the river has changed.

... moreat the reader never really understands the motivations of the antagonists. One day I'll go back and read everything back to back and it will make more sense. Despite Mignola's failure to convey a coherent plot, he and his artists, particularly Fegredo, know how to convey a tone and pace a story. That should be worth something, right? less
