review 1: I always enjoy MLK's books. I like her fresh and flirty writing, the modern vibes of her storylines and her layered characters. Surviving 2 failed engagements kept Nichole away from the dating pool for too long. So jumping in bed with a complete stranger is way out of her character. But when she discovers that he is her best friend's brother, everything comes to a screeching halt. Thrust into the role of single parent for 4 sisters since his father death, No wonder Garrett avoids commitment like plague and has a reputation as a " panty whisperer" ladies man. But he is caring and oh so tender with his sisters and with Nichole. Nichole and Garrett keep bumping into each other in the same social circle. They try to resist the pull, the magnetic force bringing them toge... morether. But who can resist the irresistible ? They both want a casual affair, right ? But this time Garrett feels he needs more than his usual hook-ups. But can he go the extra mile and discover that the M word is not so scary after all ?
review 2: I received my copy of Once is Never Enough, by Mira Lyn Kelly through the GoodReads First Reads program. I had not previously read anything by this author, nor had I read anything from the KISS, by Harlequin label. Both the author and the label were a hit with me!The main characters, Nichole and Garrett were likeable, sincere and believable, each having their own personal reasons for wanting to keep their relationship light. At no time did I find myself rolling my eyes over cringe-worthy dramatics or gushy sentimentality as I was expecting with a romance novel. Instead, I was treated to realistic characters who seemed fleshed out just enough for the reader to understand their back history and get a feel for what makes them tick. Their "dates" and other activities did not seem forced or contrived, and the relationship seemed to evolve organically, despite both Nichole and Garrett wanting to keep a lock on their feelings. There was just enough angst to keep me interested and the plot moved forward at a good pace with a healthy dose of "show-me-don't-tell-me" character development. It was a light and enjoyable read which left me smiling at the end. I'll be sure to look for more books by Mira Lyn Kelly and will pick up another KISS brand book the next time I'm a look for a light and happy read. less
