review 1: Another example of an the selection of excellent reads that i've been lucky enough to read. This is a loaded crime story that grips hold with its intriguing twist on murder and a contest that cannot be averted. all this on top of a brilliant leading character in DCI Helen Grace who is bullish and extremely competant detective who pursues the intriguing case with ruthless efficiency. Everything about this novel is excellent and is definitely worth a read for anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller.
review 2: In the first few pages I was off-put by the storyline discrepancies with Amy "clawing at the walls. Cold, hard tiles" page 2 and "her nails cracking as she clawed the tiles" page 7 then Helen noticing "fingernails long and dirty" page 20! Then further along
... more the "Cab ride to the flat had been silent" page 175 and "Helen marched across the street to her bike" page 178. The contradictions are within quick succession. Does this author not proof read or have others do so? For me the story just didn't flow and even my layman knowledge of policing leaves me wondering how Helen ever became a detective, let alone inspector, with her flouting of protocol together with background history. I'd certainly hate to think that this was the arm of the law in my home town! Altogether a reasonable but implausible easy read but not the page turner it was hyped to be. Disappointing and predictable ending :-( less
