review 1: This was a fast paced read, with lots of twists and turns. The characters were interesting but didn't really come alive or draw me in. The weird on/off romance between the coppers, followed by almost total destruction of the subordinate's career (based on no evidence) was a step too far, for me. It kept me gripped to find out what happened in the end but I probably won't read another in the series.
review 2: Considering his television pedigree, this is a rather disappointing outing for M.J. ... moree. Lots of horrific scenes are played out, but they are diluted by the rather unrealistic characters (would a pregnant lady put herself in some of the scenarios she engages? for example. The plot jumps on with leads that the reader has no means of guessing from the plot and, though you feel you should care about some of the characters, there was something missing to make that belief seem real. Maybe TV producers inject that missing element. For me, there were also several holes in the plot and too many unanswered questions - what happened to Jake for example. I was hoping for good things from this but I felt let down. less

A real page turner, I really couldn't put it down. The ending was a bit sudden though!
