review 1: 'Pop Goes The Weasel' follows Helen Grace dealing with the fallout from the case in 'Eeny Meeny' and just as another serial killer enters the frame, a Jack the Ripper in reverse. The book then follows the ensuing investigation throughout the twists and turns, making it a really exciting read. There are also characters from the first book; Charlie, Tony and Emilia as well as others which is nice to see their relationships progress with Helen Grace as well as new characters to stir the plot up and make trouble for Grace. As well as dealing with the case Grace is dealing with family issues as well and starts following a mystery young man, his identity is revealed in the book and adds more to the sad story of Grace's life. This book has short punchy chapters like 'Eeny Meeny' ... moreand a really fantastic and exciting plot, I could not put this book down. There is also a human element to the plot and the crimes which make it more emotional and bring in a layer of sympathy for the killer which was interesting. I cannot recommend this enough and I cannot wait for the next book in the Helen Grace series.
review 2: The second in the DI Grace series following on from Eeny Meeny. A very enjoyable sequel and easy to read. Short chapters keep it moving along nicely. Not too much time is spent dwelling on the fall out from the first book which is good. Someone is murdering (butchering) men who have made contact with prostitutes, their hearts removed and delivered to family/work colleagues- why? Eventually we do find out and our heroine is yet again in the danger zone- Hmm- this is where I part company with books sometimes- really- every time they solve a crime they have to either nearly die or put their life significantly in danger? This can make a really good book almost unbelievable-not good. I remain unconvinced too about the relationship between Helen and Jake-why is this necessary? There is enough violence against women in the world without this- (I know she supposedly does this on her terms) I don't really see any difference in this and Ella's violence that she suffered. I will read the third book when it comes out but if it doesn't develop that may be my last-hope not less
