review 1: Flora is fascinated by a proud Flamingo, and begins following her and imitating her graceful movements. The Flamingo eventually drops her guard and the pair share a dance together posing, jumping, and best of all enjoying each other’s company.A wordless book that has rich images readers will delight in. The visual element communicates the characters and their new friendship with a gentle smile. Each page contains a healthy dose of white space creating a light, airy feeling. The delicate flowers along the tops of the pages counterbalance the open space to communicate a place where Flora and the Flamingo can play in safety. The color scheme is monochromatic shades of pink and salmon with plenty of contrast to keep the eye active and interested. The illustrator creates the... more effect of graceful motion with flowing shapes that balances round and sharp points. A further motion effect is created by flaps in the book that open to show the next movement. Beautifully executed, calming, and a pleasure to read.
review 2: This book is a wordless picture book. It shows many pictures of the girl, Flora and the flamingo dancing and posing in many ballet poses. They explore their friendship through a long synchronized dance. They continue to copy one another, and whatever one does, the other copies. Finally, they are dancing together with great harmony. The theme of this story is friendship. Two friends can be completely different, but when they love the same things, their friendship can be very strong. Friends don't have to look alike or even act alike, but if they share a common interest, they can develop a friendship to last. Wordless picture books are a great way to enhance children's reading and literacy skills. I would show the pictures in the story and have the children write about the story. I would have them create their own forms of the story. Not only could they write about what the pictures are showing, but I would also have them write about how they got to that place in the story and what happened before that. This would be a great writing assignment for the students. less
