review 1: I picked this up because I've read the first two and found them OK -- although I don't remember anything about them! This book was unsatisfying. It reads like the author wrote it under pressure to meet a deadline, so any old way the words came out would do. There's a weird motif about snakes. . . in the gutters, in people's thoughts, in the imagery. I found this extremely annoying and not believable. I should know by now that I never like mysteries with prologues that are written from the point of view of the murderer or about to be murdered. . . and I definitely don't like books with talking corpse spirits. I'm usually sympathetic to alcoholics, but Malin's denial is boring and repetitive (true to life, perhaps, but this is a book). I have trouble buying her as either b... morerilliant or beautiful. . . but I'll probably check out the 4th book to see if she actually gets sober.
review 2: I admit the writing style is a bit confusing, until you get used to it. It's like all the characters are on a stage and the spotlight goes on a random character at a random time. But I really appreciated how the book actually gave you the feeling of a long, cold, rainy autumn. Also, the writer doesn't let you find out "who did it" until the almost end so there is something to look forward through the book. I personally liked it. less

The third book with Malin Fors. Good, but not exceptional in any way...
