review 1: I absolutely loved the intricate way in which this book was plotted. I almost want to read it all over again in order to notice the details I will have undoubtedly missed at the start. The characters are well created, although not fleshed out, I suppose it's hard as the book is do short, disappointingly so I thought. I don't think I will read another book with a beetle breeding sub plot or one which is as well imagined and well executed as this. Brilliant read.
review 2: I feel a little tricked by the jacket copy that promised hilarity. Beauman's more recent novel is pretty funny, but this one isn't at all--it's just cleverly plotted and mildly absurd.
