review 1: I've always loved Nevada Barr for her depictions of the beautiful wild parks of the U.S., but I quit reading her long ago because I can't stand books where the otherwise smart female protagonist winds up doing something incredibly dumb and out of character toward the end that almost gets her killed. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. If you let yourself go and just get caught up in the story, it is enjoyably suspenseful with Pigeon remaining true to her character throughout. Just don't go into it prepared to analyze it.
review 2: After reading the books in this series I should be afraid to ever go camping again. Also I would not invite Anna on a trip with me if I did go since it seems bad things happen when she is around (of course that is the way it is ... morewith most of the characters in series such as these). I really enjoyed the tenseness of this book even though some of the situations seemed a little far fetched. It is always amazing what things Anna can accomplish especially after she gets injured. If it was my fate to have something like this happen to me, I would want her to have my back. less
