review 1: The artwork is wonderful, the story is engaging and the narrator is charming. I fought back tears at the end of this graphic novel, which had an ending that I did not expect. Nicole Georges has the rare quality of being able to make the reader both like and despise the same character. I found myself having mixed feelings about her mom, eventually coming to a place of acceptance with her as a character (more or less the same place at which Georges settles that relationship).
review 2: This is one of the best graphic memoirs I've ever read. It's fun, intelligent, beautifully illustrated, quirky, and real. I like the speaker a lot.
